I 1999 (eller var det i 2000) mødte jeg Siv Rognstad som var på besøg på Skrivekunstakademiet i Bergen hvor jeg på det tidspunkt var elev. Siv studerede teatervidenskab og skrev på en mellem- fagsopgave, hun var tilstede en aften på Teatergarasjens lille åbne scene Prøverommet hvor jeg fremførte en tekst med titlen "Fisketuren" til tonerne af Turquoise Hexagon Sun (Boards of Canada). Siv funderede på Kristian Seltuns begreb "ilesesetting" og mente at min fremføring på et eller andet plan havde fået brikkerne til at falde på plads i forhold til den opgave hun jobbede med. Jeg fik opgaven i posten nogle måneder senere (så vidt jeg husker) og der findes bl.a. en svært generøs (mildt sagt, I'm blushing) beskrivelse af min optræden. Anyways, opgaven er interessant og kan sandelig læses her. Siv har iøvrigt skrevet flere opgaver indenfor samme felt, disse kan læses her.

Bedre blev det ikke, da jeg for nogle uger siden for første gang oplevede forfatteren live og måtte konstatere, at hun også havde den frisure, jeg altid har drømt om at få. Min første tanke da jeg så hende, var slet og ret: "Hende må min mand aldrig se", for det var jo hende, han burde være gift med (en relativt selvfed tanke, for jeg mener åbenbart ikke, han fortjener en helt anden kvinde end mig, blot den ideale mig).

WT - Yes, people believe they see deeper truths, when it's actually just the rhetoric and symbolism of heavyness and depth, or power or money, that's being used. The art world is full of this. I'm often amazed how people, especially those who make a living with words, so rarely question the knee-jerk quality of their thinking. They would only have to ask themselves the reverse question: was Schwitters not an artist simply because he made prints for advertising agencies?
HUO - Or was Warhol not an artist just because he was also a fashion illustrator.
WT - But it's also the shock value. I think that's why Warhol remains so important: because of his fearless transmutation of values, from everyday life to fine art.
HUO - Yes.
WT - Because this moment is never resolved. Because people are always searching for a rhetoric of value, for safety. They don't like the transient, and they can only bear things that death or history has established as secure.
HUO - I think this analysis of Warhol would be a good place to pause for today. Many thanks.
